Bab Al Mandeb Strait – Maritime Security Corridor
In response to the continuing threat in the area of the Bab Al Mandeb straits related to the conflict in the Yemen and potential piracy, the Combined Maritime Forces have issued a guidance bulletin to shipping navigating in this region.
In order that naval forces can deploy as efficiently as possible to protect merchant shipping a maritime security transit corridor (MSTC) has been established linking to the established Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC). This new corridor, the MSTC, extends from the eastern limit of the IRTC at 45° E providing a two way traffic separation zone through the strait.
The Combined Maritime Forces website announcement is attached to this webpage and the following link to their website shows chart illustrations of the new corridor.
