Best Management Practices - Version 4

Best Management Practices ("BMP") to Deter Piracy were first issued in February 2009, with support from across the shipping and insurance industries. The BMP were produced and circulated to counter piracy in the Gulf of Aden and off the Indian Ocean coast of Somalia. Based on experience, an updated version, BMP4, has been issued.

The BMP are supported by the Association and by many industry organisations. The organisations consulted in its preparation represent the vast majority of ship owners and operators transiting the region. The Association commends the updated BMP to the membership. All Members with ships intending to transit waters off the coast of Somalia should read the BMP and act on its recommendations.
